PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP

The Program is jointly operated by the:

bullet California Department of Public Health, Center for Family Health, Maternal Child and Adolescent Health Program
bullet March of Dimes Foundation, through a contract awarded by competitive bid.

Since 1988, this successful partnership has united the March of Dimes Foundation's prevention efforts with the State Health Department goals and resources, advancing the Program's mission of finding birth defects causes.

In l982, the State legislature created the California Birth Defects Monitoring Program. Subsequent legislation enables the Program to:

bullet Maintain an ongoing birth defects monitoring program
bullet Track birth defect rates and trends
bullet Operate by contract with a qualified entity.
